Sourdough A Love Story
Hey there – I want to tell you my story. Sourdough wasn’t love at first sight. And there were many bumps and cold shoulders along the way. But, I definitely got my happily ever after and I know you can too.
It started when my sister-in-law went to a class about natural yeast. She immediately called me. And she told me about the sourdough health benefits. She knew I would be interested in this starter. And she was right. I got some from her and played around with it a bit here and there. I just thought it was a fun new way to make bread. Nothing more.
A couple of years later I was pregnant with my 4th baby and suddenly got really sick. I couldn’t keep anything in me. And was having crazy cramping and digestive issues. Long story short, I was diagnosed gluten intolerant. Which I hated. I am a baker. It’s my therapy and my outlet. I made bread for my family every week. And well, I didn’t want to give it up. But I had to.
Sourdough Health Benefits
Several months later, in the middle of the night nursing my newborn babe. A page from a book I owned about traditional food preparation methods flashed into my mind. Something about sourdough starter being able to break down gluten to make it more easily digestible. A lightbulb went off and I jumped on the information.
I pulled that starter from the back of my fridge, nursed it back to health, apologized profusely for neglecting it. And made some bread about a week later. Experimenting on myself was not something I was afraid of. For the love of bread, I was willing.
That first taste of real toast after months of avoiding it was BLISS.
Then I waited . . .
Nothing happened. Not a twinge. My insides didn’t complain at all! So I dove in headfirst and made ALL THE THINGS. I became obsessed with learning about grains and the benefits of sourdough – which are many.
I spent years creating recipes my family would enjoy. And, I wanted sourdough to be simple, accessible, and less intimidating. Even if you never make a loaf of bread (which might break my heart, so don’t tell me if you don’t). Therefore, I hope these recipes will find their way into your home and benefit your family as they have mine.

Something About It
There is something extremely satisfying about this method of baking. It takes patience — so much patience — and TIME. Trust me, I have had more failures and brick loaves than anyone can count! But I promise you it’s a love story you’ll never forget.
Give yourself grace as you learn this ancient skill. It will give back to you over and over once you master it.
Cheering you on,
