Hi, I'm Kels!

The Best Sourdough Glazed Donuts

Having completed our first Whole 30 a few weeks ago and now beginning another round, I have compiled a list of things that I think are essential for me to complete the program. Some are mandatory, others just make it a little bit easier and more fun! I put a (*) next to anything I bought at Costco, because I got a lot there.

Fats

  • Coconut OIl*
  • Avocado Oil*
  • Ghee
  • Avocado*
  • Thai Unsweetened Coconut Milk (in a can)
  • Almonds*
  • Cashews
  • Pistachios*

Protein

  • Aidell’s Chicken Apple Sausages*
  • Ground beef (or elk, in my case)*
  • Salmon Burgers*
  • Turkey Burgers*
  • Tilapia*
  • Eggs

Vegetables

  • Kale
  • Broccoli*
  • Tomatoes*
  • Peas (sugar snap)*
  • Peppers
  • Mushrooms
  • Sweet Potatoes*
  • Russet Potatoes
  • Zucchini

Fruit

  • Apples
  • Bananas
  • Berries*
  • Melon

Extras

  • Larabars (not all are compliant – check your labels – my favorite are lemon, chocolate coconut, apple pie, and key lime)
  • Justin’s Classic Almond Butter Packets
  • Chunky Guacamole*
  • Dang Foods Lightly Salted Coconut Chips
  • Dehydrated Apples
  • Raisins
  • Coconut Secret (brand) Coconut Aminos (to replace soy sauce or worst sauce in recipes – as a meat tenderizer and adds flavor)
  • Coconut Secret Teriyaki Coconut Aminos (I typically hate teriyaki sauce but this is so good and makes such an easy and delicious stir fry – just prepare your veggies and add this sauce)
  • Real Salt Organic Seasoning Salt – I use this all the time, on everything. It’s the perfect seasoning salt and I have been using it for a couple of years and love it. It doesn’t have any fillers either, so it’s compliant!
  • Chia Seeds
  • Herbal Tea – we drink this every single night – it really helps to have something to sip on when you feel like eating snacks (I drink Calli tea from Sunrider – mint and cinnamon flavor)

I am sure everyone’s list would be a little bit different,  but these are the things we ate the most. I recently found some Applegate Farms smoked turkey lunch meat that is compliant and it is delicious. Such a great alternative when you are in a hurry but need protein fast. I have been eating it with veggies and chunky guac for an easy meal. I know I could make my own guacamole, but those little containers from Costco are TASTY and easy to throw together or take with you with some carrots and a boiled egg.

I only used dates a couple of times to sweeten ketchup and one other thing. I don’t know that I would get them again, unless I was going to make my own larabars (which I won’t do, because I just bought a bunch for a really good deal).

I made up a little “trail mix” to keep in my purse in case I ever got desperate – coconut chips, dehydrated apples, and roasted almonds and hazelnuts. It was really good, and just a tiny bit satisfied me.

What would you add to the list?

Whole30 has ruled Coconut Secret Teriyaki and Garlic sauces “non-compliant”. Unlike the aminos, the coconut sap they are made with appears to be unfermented, thereby providing sugar (and, of course, sweetness). Kind of a bummer. But they have a compliant recipe for Teriyaki that uses the compliant aminos.
Teriyaki Sauce: ½ cup coconut aminos, 1 tablespoon fresh ginger – grated, 2 garlic cloves – minced, juice of 1/2 an orange, sea salt

    • Kelsey says:

ha. Oh man. Well, that is a bummer, but that recipe sounds good! Glad I am not doing whole30 I guess, sometimes it’s nice to just grab and squirt! I love the plain coconut aminos the best.

I’m on day 10 and heading to Costco this weekend. Thanks for the list!

  3. Dee says:

    Peas are not compliant.

    • Kelsey says:

Those in the pod (sugar snap) are compliant. Shelled are not. I decided after two rounds to include all peas because I didn’t react to them and they are so good for you and my kids love them! But you are correct, peas without a pod are not compliant.
