When overhauling my pantry five years ago, baking powder was one of the first and easiest things to replace with a better option. Here is how to make your own!
I’ve mentioned that most commercial baking powders contain sodium aluminum sulfate. Switching to an aluminum-free brand such as Rumford is an easy change to make. However, if you haven’t found a good aluminum-free baking powder in your local grocery store, if you ever run out, or if you just like to make everything yourself from home, this is for you.
Baking powder is in almost every baking recipe that I have. I use it all the time. I was happy to learn how easy it is to make.
Aluminum-Free Baking Powder
1/4 c baking soda
1/2 c cream of tartar
1/4 c arrowroot powder (or cornstarch, if you aren’t trying to avoid corn)
Combine well with a whisk and store in an airtight container. Makes one cup.
Wasn’t that easy? What are some other great healthy kitchen swaps you use?
This is amazing. Thanks!!
i ran out of baking powder on sunday, & then i remembered this!! THANK YOU!!
