Hi, I'm Kels!

The Best Sourdough Glazed Donuts

* I received free product to try for this review. All opinions are my own.

I have been listening to Liz Wolfe give her spiel about  Paleo Treats® on the Balanced Bites podcast for over a year now. It is the only podcast I religiously listen to. I listen while driving alone (rare, but does happen), while doing dishes, folding laundry, etc. And Paleo Treats are one of the show sponsors. Each time she says, “Mustang Bar” it makes me want to try it.

Luckily for me (and you, if you like my tips), I was able to try all of the Paleo Treats. I enlisted a team of great taste-testers (my husband and four children) and they all had differing opinions!

The taste-testers:

  • Husband – eats anything I make, except for sweet potatoes (still trying to convince him with all my might that they are the best food ever created)
  • 7 year old daughter – will try ANYTHING once, and will finish something even if she doesn’t like it. Bless her heart.
  • 5 year old daughter – my picky eater (who, in comparison to most picky eaters, probably isn’t very picky at all . . . but in this family, she is the one who turns down the most food)
  • 3 year old daughter – when I stopped giving her milk a year ago she started eating  ALL.THE.THINGS. She amazes me every day with the food she enjoys  – kale and cabbage are two of her favorites.
  • 21 month old son – is a pretty great little eater, and tries everything, at least briefly!

It was fun to have them try out all of these new treats made with all natural ingredients, just the way we like them. They are gluten and dairy free, which is really nice for those of us avoiding those food groups (aka, ME).

Because these treats are made with real food and no preservatives, they should be stored in the fridge or freezer for them to last longer and taste better — our favorite was straight out of the freezer. YUM.

Now on to the important part, reviews from my family. From our least favorite to the one we all loved (I was actually shocked we all agreed on one that outshined the others)!

First up, MAC ATTACK!

Ingreds: coconut, egg whites, honey, cacao nibs, cacao powder, vanilla

Who liked it: my husband and I. I am a sucker for coconut and although this was JAM PACKED with the stuff, it wasn’t too much for me. The addition of the cacao nibs helped break things up a bit, and we liked it. Probably not one I would order again next to the others, but I wouldn’t turn it down if it were offered to me!

CACAO NOW!

Ingreds: honey, cacao butter, almonds, raisins, cacao powder, pistachios, goji berries

Who liked it: my 3 year old and myself. I don’t know what was up with my family on this one – I LOVED this. The texture was amazing with the raisins and nuts. It was rich, but perfectly balanced with all of the additions. Besides the taste, I love pretty food, and seeing those pistachios and goji berries had me swooning  before I even tried it!

BROWNIE BOMB!

Ingreds: honey, pecans, eggs, coconut oil, cacao powder, almond flour

Who liked it: my 5 year old (and pickiest of all my children), my baby boy, and myself. I see a trend here, but truly did like them all! This brownie is RICH. Without the pecans, I would have to pass, but they add just what this brownie needs. It might also need a scoop of vanilla ice cream . . . but I digress. This one we especially loved straight from the freezer. My 5 year old said she “didn’t love the nuts” but she still ate it all and asked for more. Win.

MUSTANG BAR!

Ingreds: almond butter, coconut oil, walnuts, honey, almonds, raisins, pumpkin seeds, almond flour, coconut, vanilla, sea salt

Who liked it: Everyone except my oldest daughter, which surprised me. It’s mild and sweet, with lots of crunchy bits. I thought for sure all of my kids would gobble it up, but my oldest daughter wasn’t partial to it. This was definitely my very favorite. It seemed like a nice light treat, and is so full of goodness! It was everything I dreamed it would be.

BANDITO!

Ingreds: almond flour, roasted almond butter, coconut oil, honey, cacao butter, flax meal, dried unsweetened coconut, cacao powder, vanilla extract, sea salt

Who liked it: EVERYONE. This was the winner. My girls wanted me to open them all after they demolished the first one. I hid them in the freezer instead!

My husband and daughter couldn’t wait for me to finish taking pictures, they snitched and snatched every chance they could — reaching for their favorites!

If you aren’t familiar with the Paleo diet, items like this can seem a bit outrageous and expensive. Let me just say that these are what they claim to be, TREATS. They are made with outstanding ingredients that I have in my own cupboards and endorse whole-heartedly. There is not one item listed that I wouldn’t love to offer my kids as a special treat.

Eating Paleo cuts out processed foods and added sugars. These treats are a great way to enjoy an indulgence every now and then without breaking the “rules” of Paleo. Having been on this diet plan before, I know that I got a little antsy for something that felt like dessert, and Paleo Treats® fulfill that desire. They aren’t an every day snack, but something you can splurge on every once in a while.

  1. Love their products! The bandito is my fav 🙂 Reminds me of a healthy Reese’s PB Cup!!

  2. I love Paleo Treats! I can’t even pick a favorite…maybe the Mac Attack. 🙂

Definitely interesting. I’ve never felt the need to try paleo but it’s so nice when you can identify and pronounce all the ingredients in your food! I love that you made this a family affair 😀
